A Brief History
The Wells Street Corridor in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has a rich history as one of the city's oldest commercial districts. Established in the late 19th century, it quickly became a bustling area featuring a variety of businesses, including theaters, shops, and eateries. A notable landmark is the Wells Street Bridge, constructed in 1884 by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Akron, Ohio. This Whipple truss bridge spans the St. Marys River and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
Over the years, the Wells Street Corridor has evolved, experiencing periods of decline and revitalization. Today, it stands as a vibrant community hub, blending historic charm with modern developments, and continues to be a focal point for local businesses and cultural activities.
